Fall is here! It’s starting to get a little cooler, and the holidays are getting closer. With that, though, expenses might be starting to stack up for you and your family. What if we told you there was a way that you could save some money on your energy bills? If you take care of your HVAC system you can save money by avoiding future repairs and reducing your energy bill.
Here are some of the best ways to do that:
- Change Your Air Filter - If the air filter in your HVAC unit is clogged, chances are your system isn’t running efficiently, which means your furnace is working harder and you’re paying more. Change your air filter today, and then keep that up every 2-3 months.
- Check Your Thermostat - If your thermostat is programmable, set it so the temperature in your house goes down when you’re not at home. This way, your furnace doesn’t have to work hard when no one is around. Even when you are at home, try to keep your thermostat as low as possible - ideally around 68 degrees.
- Clean Your Outdoor Unit - The coils in your outdoor unit are likely covered in debris. Between buildup throughout the year and the falling leaves of autumn, the HVAC system can’t work well if it is bogged down.
- Schedule Professional Maintenance - Like the video above shows, even if your system is only one year old, we can clean off the coils and help save you money on your energy bills. If you’ve had your system for many years and haven’t had it cleaned, though, please schedule a time for professional maintenance.
- Clear the Vents - Dust and pollen have likely settled on the air vents in your home throughout the year, blocking the warm air from moving throughout your house. Take a few minutes to vacuum the vents to keep your air flowing well.
- Check Your Insulation - Check the insulation in your attic. According to EnergyStar.gov, if your attic’s insulation is high enough that it obstructs your view of the floor joists, you are good to go. If your insulation isn’t that high, chances are you’re losing warm air through your attic, and therefore making your HVAC system work harder.
- Purchase an HVAC Maintenance Agreement - We offer a maintenance package that includes the main things you need to keep your system running at peak efficiency.
